I made this the night before the Windycon sci-fi convention art show but it didn’t sell and I’m actually glad it came back to me because I kinda like it.
It’s a little quilted heart with the free-motion words “love” and “me.” Along with a metal key, a black rose, and lots of fiber layers like lace, tulle, and cotton. The heart is tattered, torn and even burned in a few places. Don’t most hearts endure that kind of abuse at some point in life?
And then there’s the tag with the message printed on it. “This is the key to my heart, but you can keep it as long as you like.”
They are attached with a wired, black organza ribbon. So the key would hang nicely on the edge of a mirror, the head of a bed, a doorknob. You get the picture. It’s like jewelry for the home.
I dunno, I just really like it. Should I make up a few more and list these in my Etsy shop?
In the spirit of sharing my sources, I used the methods I learned from this book below. I really liked the book and plan to write up a review in the near future. I will also be making more fabric collage items, because I’m so drawn to them right now.
(12/8 update – oops, just realized the book link wasn’t in there – here it is…)
