I’ve been fiendishly collecting Tim Holtz inks, stamps, die cuts and hardware parts for about 2 months now and I need a good outlet to use and display the stuff I make with all that stash. So I’ve decided to join the Tim Holtz 12 tags of 2013 challenge and I hope to share a new altered art tag on my blog each month.
Here is the tag that he made. Click the photo to see his step-by-step tutorial or learn more about the 12 tags of 2013 Challenge.
And here is the tag I made based upon the techniques used in the tutorial…
Mine is a bit more simplistic because I don’t have free access to all the hardware that Mr. Holtz has!
I used the same embossed and distressed background technique on my tag, but with a different embossing folder and colors. Then I stamped some text onto manilla cardstock using Tim Holtz rubber stamps and distressed those edges. I also added gears from the Alterations die and some key & lock brads from the Hobby Lobby spare parts line. I distress stained and stamped the seam binding ribbon as well. I like that ribbon technique and will be using it more on the vintage rayon seam tapes I find out thrifting.
All that tag making got me inpired so I made a couple more. This one is for a swap on swap-bot. The Crafting Queens group will have a new swap each month to send our partner an encouraging altered tag plus a few other small gifts.
I liked this 2nd tag better. It’s more shabby and feminine rather than the grunge masculine like the first one. So then I made a 3rd tag over the weekend that was just for me. This one has a vintage sewing and corset theme…
The rubber stamps I used were from the Stampendous Corset set and included the corset ad, the dressform, and the wings. The flower is the Tim Holtz tattered floral cut from canvas and attached with a rhinestone brad. Then I wrapped some crochet string around the chipboard spool and added some vintage buttons, plus some lace and trims. I like how this tag turned out. I might keep it for myself, or swap it at some point down the road. You just never know.
So what are you working on? If you’re also in the 12 tags challenge and found me through there – drop a comment and please say Hello!
