Maybe it was the cooler weather of fall that made me return to my sewing machine and textiles. The last couple of weeks have seen me blending fabrics and stitching faces. Here is a pair I recently finished…
(I really liked that sneaky photo, until I saw it up close and realized there is cat hair on her! Yep, that’s my house.)
A close-up of their faces – which is stitched using free-motion embroidery on the machine, and finished with black safety eyes.
The full view shows their “clothing” made from clothing. I prefer to use natural fibers over synthetics. The bodies are wool and cotton. The faces are vintage linen. There are some metal embellishments adorning each of them.
I’ve been playing around with different designs of dolls and stuffed critters lately – different faces and body shapes. I am realizing that I always loved creating stuffed dolls and animals. I’ve been doing it for nearly 30 years off and on. Maybe it’s time to settle into it? I’ll leave you with the shifty-eyed monsters as we ponder that idea.
