I’ve been unhappy with my blog lately. I don’t like the look of it. I don’t like some of my content. I don’t like that I’ve been re-blogging interesting things I find from other blogs.
I’m going to change all of that. In the next few months, I’ll be slowing rolling out my blog makeover.
I’ve been reading about blogging. The first book was called No One Cares What You Had for Lunch: 100 Ideas for Your Blog I would recommend this book if you have bloggers block, it has some ideas on what to post about. The most useful thing I learned from it – they say reader LOVE to see posts about your mistakes. I have a whole lot of content I can add there – no problem.
The 2nd book I bought and read this weekend was Blogging for Bliss: Crafting Your Own Online Journal. I really enjoyed this book which is targeted for creative types of blogs. This book inspired many of the changes I’m going to make.
What am I going to change? Here’s my list:
- New backgrounds, buttons, and overall look.
- More photos of my own.
- Adding a blogroll of my favorite blogs to read
- Adding a “contact me” button. (I already did that on this morning! )
- More comments! I want to hear from people out there. (Brenda and Diane – thank you for your frequent comments. THAT is what I would like to see more of)
- More personal. Pets and cooking and family are all very important to me so you will see more glimpses of them in the future. I may also drag out old journals from many years ago and post excerpts from them. Embarrassing for me – lots of laughs for you. I promise not to overwhelm with family photos.
Got any other ideas or suggestions? I would love to hear from you. I know there are regular readers out there lurking in the shadows of the internet. Come into the light. Tell me what you think.
Feedback is so important when we chase our creative pursuits.

I’ve been writing a blog about our little farm for a month or so. My loyal readership consists of my mom, two sisters, two college friends and my fiance. I have had one comment from an actual guest, i.e., non-family/friend. I was so excited! So that’s the biggest change I’d like to see on my own blog and is probably the hardest to achieve.
In this entry, you did what I frequently forget to do – ask your readers for feedback/input/their experiences. While I’m happy to receive any comments, it’s even better to get something more than “great blog” or “I agree” or similar.
Otherwise, blogs I like tend to be humorous and/or easy to read/short. I have a list of sites and blogs I check almost every day. My failing of course, but I don’t tend to take a huge amount of time on each site. I just like checking in to see what people are doing and then move on. This will be especially true in the near future as I leave my short-term disability and go back to work.
Cheers!

Thank you, thank you for your comment Kate. I would love to hear more from you, and I will be regularly visiting your blog – I think I’m in love with your goats
And your photos, and your writing style.

Ooh, blogging about blogging. Interesting – thank you for the book suggestions in particular! It’s strange that so much has been written about blogging, but with so many people doing it (and getting stuck from time to time), I can see there’s definitely a felt need for it! Would like to hear more about your blogging process as you proceed w/ your redesign!
