A list of 11 rose making tutorials
Author: duhbe // Category: Cool Stuff I found, Inspirations, tips and tutorialsToday I’ve decided to share a list of 11 different tutorials for making and crafting roses from various materials. Read on to see links and photos off all the lovely roses you can make…
I see so many tutorials on making roses that I started keeping a list of my favorites. Since I put all the work into making this list for myself, I decided to take it one step further and share my 11 favorite rose tutorials found in blogs around the net. ( “But this one goes to 11″ especially for you Spinal Tap fans)
There is always time to stop and smell the roses. So when you visit a blog linked below to see the rose tutorial, you might want to take time to sniff around that blog for other things that interest you. You might find a new favorite blog.
(I had some linking issues which should be fixed now, please leave a comment if any more links do not forward to the tutorials – thanks!)
#1 Here are the frayed and rolled fabric roses that make me think of cinnamon buns. (great, now I’m drooling on the laptop) I see these on necklaces and blouses and they look so pretty…

#2 Here are some more cinnamon bun style, but this one uses fabric printed on an inkjet printer for a different twist. It’s also a video tutorial in case you prefer that over written instructions…

#3 How about some fold and twist fabric roses? Calamity Kim has great stuff on her blog like these…

#4 These roses made of felt have lots of rosey detail

#5 These tiny roses are made from ric-rac…

#6 Before I leave the realm of fabric roses, I should link to my own tutorial using singed polyester fabric since that is my own incarnation of rose loving goodness.

Somehow my rose tutorial comes up in google searches for “ribbon roses.” I’m a little bothered by that since mine are not made from ribbons. (google depends on the link text of others for this, so there’s nothing I can do about it.) BUT there are many ribbon rose tutorials out there. Here are 3 I liked:
#7, 8, & 9 Save-on crafts has an easy-to-follow guide to making easy wire-edge ribbon roses. If your ribbon is not wired, try this folded ribbon roses tutorial. Or if you are sewing the roses onto a base, here is a tutorial on embroidered silk ribbon roses using the spider web rose technique.
#10 GEEZ, I’m tired of fabric and ribbon after all of that. So I will leave you with this interesting alternative. Dip artificial roses in craft plaster…

#11 As my parting gesture, how about impressing your dinner companions by making them paper napkin roses?
I’m sure I missed many other methods. If you have a favorite or a twist on any method, let me know in the comments so others might learn from your experience.

Hey! I was just sitting down to make some felted-sweater flowers (why I thought Google Reader would be helpful at a time when both hands are required for work, I don’t know).
Thank you for this big list! I’ve been making some Anthropologie-style t-shirts and these (esp. the first ones you listed) could be fun for that.

Fyi, the link for the first tutorial just leads to the image…at least from my computer. : )

oops! Thanks Charissa – I fixed that broken link you mentioned. I would love to see photos of the shirts when you’re done if you feel like sharing.

I don’t have any need to make flowers right now, but I wanted to say this is a nice roundup and I especially liked that you indicated the photo reposting permissions.

Another fun one is roses made out of colored duck tape. It is a great way to make a bouquet that will last forever!

Thanks for mentioning that Staci. My daughter is always buying that colored duct tape. Here’s an instructable if anyone wants to see how duct tape roses are made.
