Design in progress – Plum Crazy

I’m going to call this item “Plum Crazy” because of the shades of plum which I love so much, and also the quote by physicist Neils Bohr that I put on the back of it.  It says, “We all agree your theory is crazy, but is it crazy enough?”

This was made from a plum sweater, dusty plum velvet leggings, and a rasberry crushed velvet tank top – all thrift store finds.  I also had some plum and rasberry broadcloth which I used as the embroidery base for the quote.  And to add contrast, I’ve used some golden colored thread for the decorative stitching.

Rather than making a cardigan type sweater, I made this a wrap style similar to my favorite 2 sweaters that I wear all the time.  It is short in back and the fronts are long – to the knees.  I never see people wearing that style, but it is my favorite so that’s the direction I’m taking.

It’s not finished yet.  I’m working on it some more today.  More embellishments for the front – maybe some elastic rouching, embroidered applique, or decorative stitching.  And I think I will shorten the sleeves since acrylic is very hot.  I haven’t decided yet.  I’m spending more time deciding how I want to make it, and very little time actually sewing.
